Our new collection!

We have a new collection. We finished gathering up the rest of them yesterday.

There's 33 in total. With all the rogue plants we had, we ended up with quite a few! :)

This one grew his own eyes... so I just had to help him out with a nose and mouth. ;)

Looks like we'll be having a lot of pumpkin soup, pumpkin bread, pumpkin pie, pumpkin butter... etc, etc. Yay for pumpkins!

Bacon Wrapped Jalapenos... on a steeck. ;)

I found this website a little while ago that had the best looking recipe. Bacon Wrapped Jalapenos. We knew we had to give them a try. Today was the day. Jeff picked 17 beautiful jalapenos from the garden, and I whipped them up for lunch.

Oh. My. GOODNESS! They are amazing. Of course, we knew they would be. All but one of the ones I ate were mild. Jeff had two that will cause a 'ring of fire', ;) and so did Ethan. I was killing myself laughing as his face got redder and redder, and tears were streaming down his cheeks. :D

If you have access to the three ingredients, you need to try them. If you can't have cream cheese, try them with turkey sausage. (That idea is in the comments on the original site.) I'll be making these again, and maybe trying some different variations for fun.

Our garden is in!!

Hurray! Our garden is finally planted! On Thursday night, we were able to plant two rows of corn, two rows of beans, and red potatoes. Then on Saturday, we went ahead and started, despite the dark clouds and heavy rain warnings. The rain passed to the south of us, and we only got a little shower. (It was light, and heavy at the same time. I mean, we got SOAKED in seconds, but it wasn't a hard rain. And the sun was still shining. ;)

So, on Saturday we got in two rows of Swiss Chard, Tomatoes, Red onions, Spanish onions, Parsnips, Carrots, Radishes, Pak Choi and two MORE rows of corn.

And, we did it all without disturbing the Killdeer nest! Yes, that's right, we went around it. There are a few shorter rows, and the mama was NOT happy with us - especially when Jeff was running the tiller near the nest, but we didn't hurt it.

See her? She's back on her nest for the night.

All that's left is pumpkins, squash, cucumbers and the marigolds that I'm going to plant all over to help deter the squash bugs and tomato hornworms. {shudder}
